Fall 2012 – Naisminth Basketball Hall of Fame, Springfield MA.

The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame was a great venue to explore the future direction of SNEAPPA.  We first heard a great presentation by the folks at Triumvirate Environmental who talked about their revolutionary approach to safety based on the book Safe by Accident, by Aubrey Daniels.

SNEAPPA President John Michalewicz then took the floor to moderate a question and answer session to explore how SNEAPPA could best serve the membership as well as our loyal business partners.

Spring 2011 – University of Rhode Island, NBC

The NARRAGANSETT BAY CAMPUS (NBC) of URI hosted the Spring SNEAPPA Conference April 13, 2011. In addition to the beautiful water views, the dual track program provided detailed information on several hot topics.  Track 1 focused on PCB policies and remediation, and was hosted by Kimberly Tisa, EPA Region 1; Vern Wyman, URI AVP for Business Services; and Jeff Hamel, Woodard &Curran.  Track 2 highlighted equally compelling themes of Integrated Pest Management, (replete with bedbugs, IPM and RFP discussions) presented by the URI, trio of  Bonnie Jacob,  Doug Michael, and Tracey Angell; and, “Behavioral Modification to Improve Energy Management,” presented by Dave Lamb, URI; and Scott Finlinson, Noresco.

The afternoon tours presented venues not often seen at SNEAPPA meetings, and included the RI Nuclear Science Center, The Research Vessel Endeavor, and The Inner Space Center.  The Nuclear Science Center presented views into the core of an active reactor, thirty feet below the water’s surface. The RV Endeavor gave views into the living/working conditions of an active NSF research vessel – which departed for research two days after the conference. The Inner Space Center showed the culmination of the vision presented by Dr. Robert Ballard at the ERAPPA conference in Mystic, Connecticut in 2006; and showed the operations center that manages active underwater research throughout the world through electronic controls and monitors. Beautiful campus – great tours.
